New Tehri

A modern town and headquarter of the Tehri-Garhwal district, New Tehri is an adventure tourism hub. The Surkanda peak lying at an altitude of 2,750 m. in the western part of tehsil Tehri, and is famous for the temple of Surkanda Devi. It is about 8 km. from Dhanolti on the motor road running from Mussoorie to Chamba and is connected with Narendra Nagar which is about 61 km. and with Tehri which is about 41 km. by motor roads.

Gabar Singh Memorial

Gabar Singh Memorial located in Chamba was built in the year 1925 to pay a tribute to the martyr Gabar Singh Negi. The brave soldier was the recipient of Victoria Cross and served as a rifleman in the famous Garhwal Rifles in 1913. During the First World War, Gabar Singh Negi along with his battalion won the battle at Flanders, which was held against Germany.
