Overview

In the Indian state of Uttarakhand, Rudraprayag is both a town and a municipality. Rudraprayag, where the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers converge, is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of the Alaknanda River. Rudraprayag is approximately 86 kilometres from the Hindu holy town of Kedarnath. Here lived the man-eating leopard of Rudraprayag that Jim Corbett hunted and wrote about.

Temple of Rudranath The town of Rudraprayag has the name of Lord Shiva, and Lord Rudranath's temple is located where the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers converge. Narada Muni is said to have worshipped the god Shiva here in order to learn music from him. The god, in the guise of Rudra (Lord of Music), then instructed him in music. Previously, there was a rock known as Narad Shila.
